A Messy Den
AT THE ROOT OF STRESS, IS AN UNORGANIZED MESS
Howdy folks, my name is Christian Michael Dossett, welcome to the Blog corner of the Dossett Den! By my definition: the “Den” is a command post, it is both material and ethereal. Sometimes it's messy… sometimes it's clean. The goal is to take this bulky thing called life and make it something workable and lean! So walk with me through this word space. I'll carve my Den down to the bone, and I hope, while walking with me, I'll help you Cultivate your own.
This blog is new… to me, new to you. Let's just go ahead and see this thing through. Stress is not uncommon. If you felt any kind of stress today you are not alone. I feel a bit of stress as I write these words. Are my words accurate and true? What will the next ones be? How will they affect my life? How will they affect you?
If I were to dwell on these things, they would become what I like to call, small anxiety; as a matter of fact, they did! For the last 15 minutes in my head, I thought about these things over and over and over… arriving at small anxiety.
But I know as I communicate to you, that the quickest and most effective way to kill small anxiety is to simply take action! Lo and behold, now that the words are flowing, the stress is gone. What then, is at the root of stress? At the root of stress is an unorganized mess, this is a personal philosophy. This applies to both material and ethereal life, this guides me in seeking clarity between my ears and it's grounded my soul, after all these years… since my mother once said to me as a boy, “you'll feel a whole lot better once you've cleaned your room.”
Several people have messy rooms and claim to be doing fine. Some even claim to like it like that. But never, ever, have I met someone who enjoys living in a messy mind. The messy mind begs for organization! It begs to be acted upon!
“Please! I plea,” says the soul, “take these ideas that confuse one another! Catch them as they bounce around so aimlessly! Take them down to paper! File them! Somehow! Anyhow! Give them purpose! Let them grow into actions through you!”
Allow your thoughts the freedom to actualize… by harnessing them, isolating them, and giving them the respect they deserve so that you make guide their growth, uninterrupted and so that they will not interrupt you!
In my Den, a telltale sign of a messy mind is if I am attempting to be present; in work, play, or a social setting, and I catch myself… eight-tabs-deep in a daydream. When I awake, back to the present moment, I can most often trace my steps back through my daydream to a singular poignant idea that deserved to be taken note of sometime prior. I will also notice this idea didn't make its debut appearance in today's attempt to be present have been attempting to steal the show all week long.
Ideas like this, that demand attention also demand you to give them respect. When you fail to show them respect, they will fail to respect you. The ideas at the root of an uninvited daydream in the Den of a messy mind deserve their seat at the table. However, there are many tables for sitting in my den and I do not sit at more than one at a time. I will politely show the incessant idea the way to his seat by means of a sticky note, bullet on a list, line in my journal, or video entry into my camera. If I'm able to do so, on my time, in a timely manner… Then, when the time is right. I will have a seat at that table and the idea will receive all the attention and respect it deserves.
This practice of decluttering the messy mind allows for more time present, less stress, and more respect for the life I currently like to live.
