“Family”

Either you’re born in the house,
you knock on their door,
or they knock on yours.

You will live together.
You will see times of peace,
together, you will see times of war.’

The peace arrives like good weather…
Foretold, or by great surprise.
By the sweetness of fruit,
or the dullness of knives.

While the armor is off,
may you recognize peace-time,
and share all your splendor.

There is no burden of proof.
This is peace.
I pray, together, surrender.

The storms are on their way.
The horizon shows this age-old truth.
Do not lose track of this day,
this peace was made for you.

Find solace in this house,
your family has already forgiven you.

May you find peace in the confines of your families, or be the agent of change. If you are to become more acutely aware of when the res can show its face, promote it, exemplify the peace you wish to surround you. If we take opportunities of peace for granted, we’ll constantly be the soldiers in the trenches, staring at the crumpled photograph from our pocket, wondering, “when will our moment of peace come?”
